Question 1

Is there an AP Hindi exam?

Accepted Answer

No, there is no AP exam for Hindi. Some students take a proficiency test for a state Seal of Biliteracy or a school credit instead; requirements vary, so check with your child’s school.

Question 2

My child understands Hindi but cannot read it. Can you help?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Lessons for heritage learners focus on Devanagari reading and writing, so the Hindi your child knows by ear becomes Hindi they can read and write.

Question 3

How are Hindi and Urdu related?

Accepted Answer

Everyday spoken Hindi and Urdu are very similar, and speakers of one can often follow casual conversation in the other. They use different scripts (Hindi uses Devanagari, Urdu uses a Perso-Arabic script) and differ more in formal vocabulary. Our Hindi lessons teach Devanagari; if you are interested in Urdu, mention it in your consultation.

Question 4

Can a complete beginner learn Hindi online?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Beginners start with the sounds and letters of Devanagari, then build up to words, sentences and simple conversation at a pace that suits their age.

Question 5

Accepted Answer
