Online Reading Tutor for Kids with Dyslexia

Structured, patient 1-on-1 reading lessons for children who find reading hard.

Children with dyslexia are often bright, curious and verbal, which can make it all the more confusing when reading does not click. They may work twice as hard as classmates, remember a word on one page and not the next, or guess from pictures because sounding out feels unreliable. Over time, many start to believe they are not smart. They are, and the right kind of teaching helps.

Our tutors teach reading the way experts recommend for children with dyslexia: explicitly, systematically and in small steps, with lots of review. Every lesson is 1-on-1 on a live video call with a shared whiteboard, so the tutor can hear exactly where a word breaks down and respond immediately. We work with children across the US and Canada, whether or not they have a formal diagnosis.

By grade level

How we support readers at each stage

Dyslexia looks different at different ages. Tutors start with the skills your child needs most right now.

Early readers (JK to Grade 1)

Hearing and playing with sounds in words, connecting each sound to a letter, and blending simple words. Early, structured practice with sounds is one of the most helpful things for children who show early signs of reading difficulty.

Developing readers (Grades 2 and 3)

Systematic phonics patterns such as digraphs, blends, vowel teams and silent e, taught one at a time with plenty of review, plus decodable books that only use patterns your child has learned.

Older readers (Grades 4 to 8)

Syllable types, prefixes and suffixes for reading longer words, fluency practice, and comprehension strategies. Tutors also build confidence so older children are willing to read again.

Spelling and writing

Spelling is often the hardest skill for children with dyslexia. Tutors connect spelling to the same phonics patterns used in reading, so each skill strengthens the other.

Common challenges

Common signs of reading difficulties

Only a qualified professional can diagnose dyslexia, but these signs are worth paying attention to.

Trouble connecting letters and sounds

Your child may still mix up letter sounds after classmates have mastered them, or struggle to blend sounds into a word even when they know each sound.

Guessing instead of sounding out

Children who cannot rely on decoding often guess from the first letter or the picture, which works in simple books and breaks down as text gets harder.

Slow, effortful reading

Reading may be accurate but very slow and tiring, leaving little energy for understanding what the text says.

Spelling that does not stick

Words learned for a Friday test are forgotten by Monday, and the same word may be spelled several different ways in one piece of writing.

I want to give a big shout-out to my Tutor Bethany. She has been working so hard with my daughter Aaliyah Salas. I'm truly grateful for her. This wouldn't be possible without Bethany dedication. Thank you to Bethany, you & your amazing Organization PS. My daughter will be receiving an Award at School for receiving a prefect score on her Reading/Writing Assessment.

Our approach: structured and systematic

Our Reading Boost Program is grounded in the Science of Reading. Phonics is taught explicitly, in a logical order, with each new skill building on the last. Lessons include frequent review, multisensory activities on the whiteboard such as tapping out sounds and building words with letter tiles, and reading practice with text your child can actually decode.

We want to be clear about what we are and are not. We are not a diagnostic service, and our tutors are not a substitute for an assessment by a psychologist or other qualified professional. If you suspect dyslexia, we recommend talking to your child’s school or doctor about an evaluation. Tutoring can begin before, during or after that process.

What a lesson looks like

A typical 45 minute lesson includes a quick review of known sounds, one new pattern taught clearly, word building and reading practice, a short decodable passage, and a game to finish. The pace is set by your child, and success is built into every lesson so reading starts to feel possible again.

Consistency matters especially for children with dyslexia, so we recommend 3 lessons a week with the same tutor. Your child also gets short daily exercises to practice between lessons.

FAQ

Dyslexia Reading tutoring questions

Do you diagnose dyslexia?

No. Dyslexia is diagnosed by qualified professionals such as psychologists. We provide structured reading tutoring, which can help whether or not your child has a diagnosis.

Does my child need a diagnosis to start?

No. Many families start tutoring while they wait for an assessment, or because their child is struggling without a clear reason. The tutor starts by finding which skills are missing.

Can online tutoring work for a child with dyslexia?

Yes. 1-on-1 online lessons let the tutor focus completely on your child, and the shared whiteboard supports hands-on activities like building words and marking sounds.

How much does it cost?

Lessons for JK to Grade 8 are $30 USD for 45 minutes, booked in packages of 12. There is no obligation to continue after the first package.

How long until we see progress?

Every child is different, and children with dyslexia often need more practice and review to master each skill. We recommend at least 3 months of consistent lessons to see substantial progress.
